EEA Family Permit expired and urgently need to travel!

Hello there
Can someone please advice me on what to do!! My EEA Family Permit has expired,I have applied for a residency card but have not hear a word from them yet.
I am here on a South African passport. The problem is I need to fly to Portugal urgently in 2 weeks time!! Am I able to apply for a visa to enter Portugal?? Or am I stuck here in the UK until my residency card arrives??
Any advice please would be so appreciated!!
