EEU PR application for elderly mother

Post by AlustrielWD » Sat Jan 12, 2019 12:50 pm

Both me and my mum are EEA nationals (italian)

I am a bit overwhelmed with the whole process as my mother is now 76, and has been supported by me and 2 other sisters since 2009, when we moved here. As such she doesn't have a bank account, and she lives with one of my sisters.

I was wondering if i could ask a couple of questions.

1: Am i correct in saying me and my sisters will then have to write letters saying we support my mum?

2: Would it be better to submit 2 separate applications instead of adding her to mine, or is it the same?

If anyone has any advice at all, it would be greatly appreciated!

Ciao - me and another forum user Obormot have a very similar family situation to yours. Don't feel overwhelmed - there's a bit of work to do, but it's doable.

Have a look at my other thread, and Obormot's responses:
eea-route-applications/eea-pr-for-depen ... ?hilit=Eea pr dependent parent#p1696880

Obormot has now obtained PR for her mother - we still haven't sent my Mum's EEA (PR) application, mainly because she's procrastinating.

Just a final note - given the Settled Status pilot phase has opened today to all EEA citizens, as of today your Mum has a choice on whether to apply for EEA (PR) or for Settled Status. They both cost the same in terms of application fee (£65). The Settled Status application seems to be more straightforward, provided you have access to an Android phone with NFC. If she applies for EEA (PR), she'll have to exchange the PR card for Settled Status before Dec 2020 (for free).

We are considering which application to do - if I understand correctly, Settled Status could be more straightforward as it's done entirely online without the need to send documents by post (unless it's a complex case) and also without the need to translate documents such as birth certificates (which are needed if applying via the PR route).
I am not an immigration lawyer. My comments are opinions, not legal advice.
