Hi there,

I am an EEA citizen currently living outside the UK and returning to the UK with my wife (non-EEA citizen) in a couple of months. My wife has an EEA Family Permit on her passport, valid for 6 months.

When I arrive I am planning to set up my own Limited company, and start trading as a contractor/freelancer.

My question is: can I request a Residence Card for my wife, if I am not a permanent employee, but a director and shareholder of a Limited company?

I appreciate any information on this.

One of the ways to exercise treaty rights is self employment.

You should be aware that it seems the HO is not making life easy for self employed to prove their self employment.

Thank you, Jambo.

In practice, what do they request as a proof of self employment? What makes it hard?

I'm expecting to have a contract already signed when I arrive (between my Limited Co and the Client Co).

Thanks
