Hi guys,

Could anyone tell me whether I ll have to apply for a Schengen visa before going to Italy for a short holiday with my husband who is Italian himself?

I am a holder of the valid biometric residence card.

I contacted Italian embassy in London.

They didn't give any clear answer, saying next:
"We do not have any official notification regarding visa requirement with this type of residence permit, hence you must confirm with the border control and immigration authority at the border of entry before your travel to know whether visa is required or not."

 Many thanks for your help.

What is that card - is it a UK BRP or a UK-issued RC?
or is it an EU Article 10 (or 16 or 20) type of card?

And what is your nationality?

There is a non-visa way to travel but it may not be stress-free or quick/easy:

I m Ukrainian.
On my biometric (plastic) card it says a Residence card of a family member of Union citizen. Issued in the UK.

Type of permit :
Family member - EU residence.

You should be good to go then, as outlined here:

Thank you!
But i am not sure i understood this moment:

2.The visa applicant will be travelling with, or joining, the EU citizen for a visit or permanent move to an EU member state. (If they are going to the “home” country of the EU citizen, then there can be a requirement that the EU citizen had previously lived/worked in a different member state)

We are going to his home country but we live in the UK now.

Assuming husband lives & works in UK he has exercised treaty rights in another member state - so it is fine that he returns to "home" country (with you).
