UK Residence Card

Hello. I am about to send away my application form for UK Residence Card.

1. I wonder if anybody knows whether it is necessary to post original documents (e.g. education certificates, marriage certificate, bank statements, payslips) or can I send photocopies? Or should I send both copies and originals?
I am worried HO is not going post back all of my documents but only passport.

2. How long does it usually take to get a residence card.

Any information would be helpful.

Thanks

1) The form and guidance tells you:
Unless otherwise stated, please send original documents only. Photocopies are not acceptable. If you’re unable to send the original, please explain why. We’re unlikely to be able to approve your application without sight of the original document
2) Weeks - months.
