Student sickness insurance and registration certificate

Hello,
I've heard that those people who apply after coming to the UK, studying and then working do not need their period of study covered with a sickness insurance, given they applied for a registration certificate with Home Office in the past. I vaguely remember though that only certificates issued before a specific date make you exempt from the insurance requirement.

I've got a 3 month gap in insurance cover during my student days, and I believe that renders everything before the gap as not qualifying period. I recently found a registration certificate though, dated November 2011. Could this be a solution for me?

Thanks a lot

There is no CSI requirement for students who received a yellow registration certificate before 20 June 2011.

Yours seems to have been issued after that date, so you probably were not exempt from CSI.
