Hello,

I'm currently a first year university student (19 years old), moved to the UK from Poland in July 2010 with my mother who is still in the UK, but still in the process of collecting the documents for her application.

I'm unsure about several things:
*Are we allowed to apply separately?
*Is my mother my sponsor for the time when I was still in secondary education, that is until I started university?
*Will the original documents be returned to me? (Considering sending off my exam certificates)
*What other documents should I send off in support of my application apart from a statement of attendance from my secondary school and sixth form (October 2010-June 2015), as well as the university statement of attendance?
*How long will I have to wait for my passport to be returned?

Applying for what? confirmation of PR?
You may apply together for PR. Mom as main applicant; you as dependent.
Or you could apply separately at different times.

Pro tip: don't let mom naturalise as a British citizen before she has sponsored you and any other family member.
Reason: BCs (even dual nationals/EEA) cannot sponsor EEA family members anymore

Yes and no. Whilst a child in education (and in fact up to age 21) your EEA-national mom may be your sponsor.
That is if mom has been exercising treaty rights continuously as a qualified person (eg as a worker etc).

If a worker, and as an A8 national, was mom fully and properly registered for WRS (up until 2011)

Yes, docs will be returned eventually. Suggest take scans and copies of everything for reference anyway.
You can request documents are returned (eg passport) some little time after filing the application.

Have you read the guidance?
You have to prove identity, relationship to sponsor, residency in UK, treaty rights of sponsor, any absences from UK within limits & etc.

Application may take up to 6 months - or more. (Your mileage may vary).
As mentioned, you can request passport back.

Pro tip: if it happens that you are going to apply for EU documents in your own right then make sure that, as a student you have CSI (health insurance) in place (or, at very least, possess a foreign-issued EHIC).
Otherwise your student years will not count towards acquiring PR.
(This does not apply if mom remains your sponsor).
