EEA permanent residence and criminal record

Hi.
I have been in UK since 2004 and have been always working and paying my taxes (I have P45s and P60 to prove it), I also did my BA degree in 2010. I want to apply for Permanent Residence, however in April 2016 I have been convicted of teft and I have criminal record. It will be spent in 2 years. Is there any point in applying before the conviction is spent or will my application be automatically rejected?
Thank you!
