So the online EEA(PR) application doesn't let you skip the questions which you aren't required to answer. I can see this being a very popular service

I have used the service and it is not a true online application - you still have to send it in as hard copy with originals of all the documents.
The advantage is that it seems a good deal less daunting to fill in than the 85 page paper version, and you only print out the bits actually filled in. Mine came to just 10 pages including every part time / temporary job, weekend city break and speeding ticket.
Plus it *ought* to be faster as they already have all the information in electronic form which means less work their end. But I guess it's far too soon for anyone to know what the real timescales are.

What are those groups, if you don't mind me asking?

Hi,
What is the definition of an original document in regards to the EEA (PR) online application? I am starting to go through the online form and the supporting P45/P60s documents i have are in PDF format. If i print them out is this considered an original? The company i worked for stopped sending out hard copy payslips some time ago.
Thank you in advance.

Any chance you can ask HR Department for a letter of employment you can send in at the same time and get them to stamp the p60 prints with company stamp and countersign?

The official documenattion at
https://www.gov.uk/government/collectio ... rn-service
says that, if you plan to use the European passport return service, you should go to your appointment within 5 working days of submitting the application.
How does this work? What if the council does not have an available slot till 2 weeks?
What if for some reason they give you a slot which is in 2 days but you can't make it (eg clashes with work)? Do you lose the fee and have to reapply again?

Hi all,
I was just about to send my paper EEA PR application, when I discovered an issue: I was planning to send my EU national identity card instead of my passport, so that I can continue using my passport for travelling while awaiting outcome of PR application. However, accoridng to the EEA PR Guidance Notes, "previous passports you’ve held since living in the UK" need to be sent, which means I need to send my passport as well (does it actually mean that I need to send BOTH my passport and EU ID card?). Since the Passport Return service is only available to users of the new Online EEA PR form, I decided to send my application online instead.
However, according to official GOV webpage, "a student cannot use this form if they are reliant on a family member to provide their income".
My PR application is based on 6 years of residency in the UK: 1 year as a student and 5 years as a full-time employee. As a student, my source of income has been my family. Given that this student year is well in the past and I am not a student any more, does the restriction cited above bite in my case, i.e. will I be able to use the online EEA PR form?
Also, does any one know what is a typical processing time for an Online PR application?
Thanks a lot!

"previous passports" are listed under "proof of residence" in the guidance notes, but I fail to understand how a passport would prove residency. Previous passports are not listed uner 'proof of identity and nationality'.
It is not clear. All I can tell you is that a friend submitted his non-on-line application form, submitting his identity card: he wasn't asked for his passport, and his application was accepted. I have no idea how representative this case is, though.
Answering my own question, it seems it's a bit chicken and egg: the best approach would arguably seem to be to have the application ready, call the council to see when they have a slot that's convenient, submit the application once you know the council can see you at a time that works, then call the council again to finally book - you won't be able to book before submitting the application.
You can go to a council where you are not a resident.

If you apply online it seems it needs to be on basis of being a worker qualified person then.
There is no dataset indicating processing times as its a new service.
Suggest monitor timeline thread to track other members' experiences.
Your mileage may vary.

A stamped passport contributes to demonstrating residency in UK.

But European citizens do NOT get their passports stamped! So this is not applicable to European citizens submitting their European passport when applying for the permanent resident certificate

Tell it to UKVI.
And some applicants may have been in UK under another route at some stage of their journey.

Another route such as what?

This is not a topic about routes to settlement.
Suffice to say someone may have jumped ship from UK to EU route. So they could have stamps in a passport.
And somehow, some on EU route do collect stamps, perhaps by entry into some non-EU country non-home country.

It’s a topic about the European passport return service, so discussing whether previous passports should be provided, and what the guidance notes say on this, is relevant.
I still fail to understand how a European passport could ever prove residency.
What do you mean by jumping ship?
AFAIK there is no way a European passport would have ever been stamped upon entering or leaving the UK. This does not happen. Ever. No exceptions. None. Or am I missing something?
There may be stamps for entry and exit into/from a non-EU country, but these wouldn’t prove time away from the UK. If, say, a Dutchman spends a week in France, then one in China, then one in Spain, then goes back to the UK, the stamps on his passport will only show the week in China.

Evidence is required for all PR applications. that is not special to online service.
And I didn't mention UK stamps.
The guidance is not the law.
The law requires an applicant to prove residence as well as treaty rights.
No single item of evidence is ever enough, passports are one example of one piece of evidence as per the HO PR guidance.
Simple as that.

The point remains that a European passport cannot prove residency, nor time away from the country. Do we agree on this? If we don't, could you please provide an example whereby a European passport would somehow prove residency?

I have already provided examples.
And not everyone on EU trajectory will have an European passport; non-EEA family members also have to prove residence in UK.
And this topic is about:
Online EEA PR and EU passport return service available not how does one prove residence in UK on EU route.

No, you haven't.
You have not clarified what jumping ship means, nor have you clarified when how or why a European passport can ever prove residency. The key is 'European'. The online process and the European passport return service (the subject of this thread) are both for European nationals only, NOT for non-European family members of European citizens.
Again, the point remains that a European passport cannot prove residency.
