No Confirmation E-mail from HO - really worried!

Hi all,
Below is the timeline of my application (in paper format):
Application Sent: 22 Nov 2016
Application Received: 23 Nov 2016
Payment taken: 24 Nov 2016
Confirmation email by HO: ???
I can see most others (if not all) on here received their confirmation e-mail by the HO within a few days or at most a month after applying, so I am not sure what has gone wrong here?
I tried contacting the EEA helpline but all they said was 'sometimes it takes longer' and 'we don't send out confirmation emails for everyone'.
Is there anything I can do to check everything is ok with my application? Should I request my EU Id card back to perhaps make them pay attention to my application again?
