Permanent residency, private insurance

Hi there, would anybody know whether I need comprehensive medical insurance cover for the times when I am inbetween jobs (1-2 weeks) to later qualify for permanent residency?
I've heard the Home Office is harshly refusing PR document applications if they have any reason to do so, so when the time comes when I want to apply for PR I do not want to lose it because I wasn't qualified for a few weeks while looking for a job.
