EEA(PR) off sick - does HO need to be informed?

Hi there,
This is with regards to EEA(PR) application:
Qualifying period: Jan 2012 - Dec 2016.
Current employment contract: Oct 2016 - Aug 2017.
EEA national goes on long-term sick leave in Feb 2017 (not during the qualifying period).
Does the HO need to be informed? Do they usually contact the last employer during the qualifying period?
