Surinder Singh ?

Hello,
I've got a tonne of questions that in the current situation probably don't have answers but I'm going to ask for your advice.
I'm a Canadian citizen , I've been living in the UK,with my british wife, for a couple of years now but technically illegally. ( coming and going on tourist visa )
I've recently found out I may have been entitled to a surinder Singh visa due to our residence in Europe.( her for 20 years , me for 12 )
Does anyone know
1) am I still entitled to apply under surinder singh ?
2) if surinder singh fails would I face deportation ?
3) would it help or hinder my case to leave and come back in so that I have a valid 6 month visa stamp in my passport.
Any other advice ?
