Certified Sponsor Passport EEA Family Permit

Hi Guys,
I've read that I need to include a certified copy of my italian passport in order to apply for an EEA family permit for my spouse.
My question is: Should I send her a copy certified as authentic by the Italian embassy or eventually can it be also certified by a notary in the UK? Thank you for your help
