I checked with a lawyer and the information on citizensadvice (here: https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/immig ... ed-status/) and was told it is not compulsory, but it should make your life easier especially that you still have a couple of years to go on this card. I have been trying to get any confirmed information on whether any new government advice came out to say that this is a compulsory requirement. A recent HO presentation, didn't include this information. It is not my intention to introduce more doubt, but I am in this situation myself and I have been asking about this for the past days to no avail. In my situation, I would be eligible for the settled status in literally a month after the 30 June date and I have already been through a hellish process of a BRC replacement in my first year arriving to the UK. So I really wanted to see if this could be avoided especially that one's status is in fact independent of the card. If my question isn't appreciated in this forum, then fine. Fair enough. But note, that's the danger of piggy backing on someone else's post instead of introducing your question, with your own background, in your own separate post.
