Any employment restrictions on settlement visa?

My husband has been granted a 2 year U.K. settlement visa. I was very surprised to find that no paper work or information was issued along with it. I have tried numerous searches as to what his legal obligations are during his stay here in the U.K. but the only ready information I have come across is 'PRE' visa applications.
My immediate question is: Will a 2 year settlement visa automatically allow my husband to legally work here in the U.K. within this 2 year period? If so, is there someone or somewhere we have to apply to for this? Or can he apply for work without notification? I would appriciate any feed back, thank you.

Yes (as long as it is not a settlement visa as a fiance(e)).

Apply at places where one would usually do - potential employers, JobCentre, recruitment agencies / websites etc. etc.

Thank you very much, that really helps, and yes he has a spouse visa.

There are no "do or don't do" published by UKBA. The restrictions, if any, are endorsed on the visa itself (e.g. - no recourse to public funds).
