Global talent, route to settlment --new laws

Hello,

I am currently on a Global Talent Visa (UKRI-sponsored) with a three-year pathway to settlement. I will be eligible to apply for settlement next year (May 2025), but after reviewing the new white paper and hearing the Prime Minister’s strong stance on immigration changes, I’ve grown concerned.

I’d appreciate any insights from those familiar with how the UK typically implements new immigration laws:

Retrospective Application: If the rules change, could they be applied retrospectively? My initial visa was granted for three years, and since the Global Talent route does not extend beyond five years, how might this affect my eligibility?

Dependents’ Status: Would my dependents (who arrived in the UK last year) also be impacted by these changes?

Thank you for your help—any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I think you should be okay because 1) the 10-year rule is not universal, 2) you are on global talent so profile matters. The main mention is SWV not Global Talent, rather they want to expand it. I am not sure about the dependents.
