banking job in UK

Post by yedi » Thu Nov 18, 2004 4:18 pm

Hi guys,

I am banker by profession but have a science background(B. Sc Chemistry to be precise) as first degree. I had my post graduate diploma in management and MBA.

I have applied for HSMP using banking profession. From what i've gather from this forum, i found out that getting banking job is not as easy i think.

Can anyone tell me whether is possible for me to use my first degree chemistry science (without any experience in this field )to get a job in UK if i'm granted HSMP approval.

Please this need an urgent reply.

You are wrong. Plenty of Jobs in Banking & Finance sector.
Even i'm thinking seriously to switch to Banking Sector (Software development). Banking professionals are highly paid creatures, whether they are competent or not.

Jobs are there in the banking sector but in IT side, not easily available in main stream banking except for junior positions which are so lowly paid it is impossible for a mid level career professional with a family to survive.

Rog,

Would have an idea what are the job opportunities for a specialist project management professional in banking (non-IT) field?

Thanks...Taikoo

For a non IT or non technical and general type managerial position, generally the preference is given to British citizens having studied here and preferably with the correct accent. Sometimes it does get frustrating to see an obviously inferior person sitting in a better position by virtue of being a UK or EU citizen but one has to just pull on, keep trying and be positive for better opportunities. All those qualifying under HSMP would be skilled, highy educated and competent persons in managerial positions, but my experience has been that you have to struggle that much more being an outsider and be prepared to work in a lower position than in your home country. Once you are in, just keep trying for a better job and you may get lucky. Apart from IT / Technical professionals, I have not yet heard of someone getting a managerial job in their profession straightaway.

Relax Senior Member. It was a mistake. I know no body here. This board is helping eachother, exchanging information and so on rather than pin pointing at something which is of unimportant.

However appreciate your concern.
