Employment for Spouse?

Post by Canadian Lovely » Sat Oct 28, 2006 12:54 am

I'm Canadian applying for settlement as the spouse to a UK citizen.
Is it vital to have already made arrangements for employment before I can obtain a Visa?

Simple answer is no, and it is unlikely that you wil be able to until you have a visa. There is nothing stopping you being prepared such as sending your CV to agencies/potential employers though as you can work in the UK as soon as you have the visa.

The important part is that 'together you can support yourselves and any dependants without any help from public funds'. This is normally down to the UK spouse showing they can support both, but the financial status and employment/prospects of each person is equally relevent in demonstrting this.
