exchange multi entry visa for family visa

Post by Gedk66 » Sun Apr 03, 2016 9:44 am

Hi folks,

We are a family of four, living in the Middle East. I and our two children are British, my wife is Colombian and has a multiple entry visa for the UK.

Can this visa be exchanged for a join family visa and can it be done within the uk?

We will all return together and I am hoping that we can change visas once we're back in Blighty.

Thanks in advance..

No, you can't. A spouse settlement visa is a new visa application with a completely different set of rules and requirement. You cannot exchange a visitor visa for a different visa.

You cannot switch to any other visa category within the UK while on a visitor visa.

Hello again and thank you for your response.

So next question.. On the Visa website it says we should apply for 'join family living permanently in the UK' but we're all living in the middle east-where I am working and have been for the last 6 years. Is this the correct Visa for us to apply for, if we all want to return together and remain in the UK please?

I have sufficient savings and a job to go to that more than meets the financial requirements. My wife speaks English perfectly and we will pay the calculated amount required for NHS healthcare. The big query is, which is the correct Visa based on our needs.

Thanks again...

My wife speaks English perfectly She still needs the A1 English test from an approved test provider. and we will pay the calculated amount required for NHS healthcare It will be £600 for the surcharge. The big query is, which is the correct Visa based on our needs.

Thanks again...

Yes we have adequate savings and for more than 6 months.

My wife speaks English perfectly She still needs the A1 English test from an approved test provider. and we will pay the calculated amount required for NHS healthcare It will be £600 for the surcharge. The big query is, which is the correct Visa based on our needs.

So we should find a test provider here and I did the calculation too, it actually comes to £700.00.

Thank you for your help. I was concerned that I might need to be resident and present in the UK prior to my wife's application, but from what I've read on-line, it seems that 'Present and Settled' is assumed if said British Citizen is intending to return to UK.

We have two options for processing, the usual postal option or fast track, which carries obvious costs. Any ideas how long the postal applications could realistically take please?

Regards,

Ged.

List of approved test centres for English test in link below

https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... l_2016.pdf

IHS charge is £600 for a 33 month visa (initial visa in passport issued for 30 days though and biometric visa card must be collected within 10 days of arriving in the UK at your designated Post Office). The difference will be the currency fluctuations that UKVI apply, and they use the upper level of exchange rates.

In the visa application it asks 'How did you meet the English language requirement?'

What should we write to fill this question please?

There should be an option to select that she has completed the SELT English test.

Then you write the details of her A1 test she has done (test centre etc).
