Fiance Visa - Checking Progress

My partner applied for her fiance visa in May 2017. The papers were sent to Sheffield in mid June. 6 weeks in and things are still trudging along.

It would be nice to know how the apllication is progressing and I wondered of there was a way to check? I came across a link in another topic here which apparentley checked how things are going. However I understand this can only be used for applications made in UK. Our application originated in USA.

I have a GWF number. Is there a way to check progress?
