Home office wants proof of divorce, but wasn't married before

Post by freewaydiva » Wed Jul 18, 2018 2:42 pm

HI All,

I''ve received an email from the home office stating that they need proof of my divorce, but prior to my current husband (UK citizen) whom I am trying to join in the UK, I've never been married. I am completely unclear on the next steps I should take. How can I prove that I've never been married before this?

Thanks in advance.

Nope. This is a first marriage for both of us.

Have you ever made a visa application to the UK, visitor or other?

And you definitely did not tick that you are 'free to marry' in the section it asks about previous marriages?

Perhaps they have confused your name with someone else's.

This is my first visa application of any kind, and I'm confident I ticked 'no' for 'have you or your spouse been married previously."

What I'm hoping to learn, here, is what I can provide to the Home Office to prove that I've not been married before. Is a notarized statement enough? Is there other documentation I should try to acquire that would satisfy them?

A statement/letter should suffice and perhaps ask them what evidence they have that you have been married before as you are unable to provide evidence of something you have not done previously.
