Savings Route Spouse Visa

Post by Ahmed11 » Thu Oct 04, 2018 2:03 am

Hi

Me (applicant) and my wife (british national) are planning to apply for a spouse visa through the savings route. We have been living in China since the past several years and was wondering if it’s acceptable to show a split in savings in two different bank accounts under my wife’s name, for example, £30k in the UK bank account and £40k in the Chinese bank account. Or do the savings have to be shown in the UK bank account only.

Also, after March 2019(Brexit), will the spouse visa applications be put on hold? Will they stop accepting visa applications?

Apologies if the above topics have already been discussed and incase I should be discussing these topics under a different blog then please guide. I’m a new user so a bit unsure about the rules here.

Many thanks!

Thank you Vinny.

Also, any idea if the bureau will stop accepting applications post brexit or put a cease on immigration in general?

Spouse visa is governed under UK immigration law which has nothing to do with brexit.
The opinion expressed as above is neither a professional advice nor contesting/competing to other member's opinion/advice.

It is not easy to guess how things will change post Brexit but May has said everyone will be equal, that is EU citizens will need to go through the same processes as non EU.

It is incredibly rare for governments to give up on money grabbing, so I do not think spouse visas will be much cheaper, if at all.

Typically the government will just invent new strands and names for visas, with differing costs.

If everyone will have to apply then I fear for the applicants as an already struggling Home Office will need to deal with far more paperwork. Short term this will be a nightmare and applying in March onwards next year prone to massive delays as they won't have the staff.

Eventually it will get too much, the media will get onto it and it should , in theory, get better.

Just a view though for no-one knows!

Many thanks Edwardo and Vinny, really appreciate your feedback and comments. I’d be reading more into the requirements.
