Hi all,
I'm in the process of completing the paperwork to renew my current spouse visa FLR(M), which is complex enough in itself, additionally I've realised that having my BRP and my passport in different surnames may be a problem. Basically last December my NZ passport was due to expire and I was in the process of getting it renewed when my father suddenly passed away. I had to travel back home with 5 days notice so didn't even think about the BRP at the time. When I came back through UK immigration in January this year, they didn't have an issue with the two being in different names and didn't advise that this would need changing as I was due to renew the visa in a year anyway. Obviously it is biometric so clearly identifiable as me. They suggested that I should just carry my old passport in my maiden name along with my marriage certificate with me when travelling which I have done throughout this year with no problems at border security. It is only now going through the renewal paperwork that I have realised I should have changed it. I'm renewing the visa in January, once it gets to within 28 days of expiry so there is no time to do anything about it. Has anyone been in a similar situation and what was the outcome?
