Spouse settlement visa, both parties are abroad

Post by stevendoonan » Sun Jan 26, 2020 7:49 am

I am going to be the sponsor for my wife in a spouse settlement visa. We both live in Shanghai. My parents gave me 60000 pounds as an early inheritance, and that money will have been in my account for 6 months in March. We both work here but our current contracts will finish in 16th of Feb and since we want to go to the UK were not renewing. I have saved some money myself and my wife has some money from an inheritance. I really want to know what documents I need to provide when applying because nearly every scenario assumes the sponsor is in the UK, but I haven't lived in the UK for 7 years. I have saved money from jobs I've had in China. I'm very confused and want to know what to do. My wife (we married around 2 years ago) has done her TB check, will do IELTS soon, but I'm worried about the financial requirement, at the time of application my UK bank account would have over 70000 pounds in it but will it be counted?

Thank you

The requirement can be found in Appendix FM 1.7 (click).

The evidence required for cash savings is specified in Appendix FM-SE:

11. In respect of cash savings the following must be provided:
(a) Personal bank statements showing that at least the level of cash savings relied upon in the application has been held in an account(s) in the names of the person and their partner jointly throughout the period of 6 months prior to the date of application.
(b) A declaration by the account holder(s) of the source(s) of the cash savings.

You must have the required funds in an approved financial account for 6 or more months.

Thanks for the reply, it's only in my uk bank account in my name not my partners, is that a problem? It's been there since august.

That’s absolutely fine.
