Interview for Spouse Visa in Cameroon

Post by kingink » Tue Aug 12, 2008 10:17 pm

My fiancee lives in Gabon and I intend traveling there later this year so that we can get married. The nearest British High Commission is in Yaounde, Cameroon and traveling to attend an interview there involves 3 separate flights in each direction. Since she has already made this journey on 3 separate occasions (once for a visitors visa and twice for a fiancee visa application, all unsuccessful), we want to make sure that she has the best possible chance of succeeding this time. I was advised by the IAS that there would be a better chance of success if I was to accompany her to the interview, however when I phoned the embassy, I was told by an employee that "my presence was not required". Since the logistics of planning the journey for myself seem to be quite complicated and expensive (ie a hotel booking and a departure flight ticket must be given in order to get a Cameroon visa and so far I'm having great difficulty in doing this online), I would prefer I she made the journey herself, but not if it was to reduce her chances of getting a visa. Can anyone offer any advice?

I understand visas applications deposited in Cameroon are now processed in Ghana.Find out directly with the High Commission in Cameroon before making any plans.

I can assist with any other questions on logistics.

Interview For Spouse Visa in Cameroon

Thanks for your reply Patience. I have generally found any communications with the High Commission in Yaounde very difficult (ie only an answerphone giving opening hours even when phoning during these hours, or the person I need to talk to is unavailable). From their press release concerning the processing of visas in Ghana (http://ukincameroon.fco.gov.uk/en/newsr ... id=4116340), they state: "The applications will be sent to the British High Commission in Accra by secure courier.... Once the decision has been taken applications and documentation will then be sent by secure courier back to the British High Commission in Yaoundé for collection".

"All visa applicants, except for those applying to settle in the UK, should allow between 5-15 working days from the date of submission of their visa application before collecting their visa decision".

It does not state how long an applicant applying to settle in the UK should allow. If this is also up to 15 days does this mean that applicants from outside Cameroon need to either make 2 separate trips there or stay in Cameroon for up to 15 days in order to collect their visa.
Would it be any quicker applying directly to the High Commission in Accra and attending an interview there (if permissible)? Although I have not yet looked into the travel / visa implications of us traveling there from Gabon

Neither of us are from Cameroon. I am British and my fiancee is Gabonese. The British High Commission in Yaounde, Cameroon is the nearest at which she can apply for a visa.

Going to Ghana is your best option. No need to go to Cameroon and get your application sent to Ghana then returned to Cameroon. Not worth the time and hassle. It is better to go to Ghana and get it sorted there.

What do you think?
