I am a UK citizen by birth. I am planning to apply for Settlement visas for my wife and daughter. I married my Indonesian wife in the Netherlands in 1998 and we have been together in Indonesia ever since. We have brought up my wife's sister's daughter as our own in Indonesia since birth. This year she was legally adopted under Indonesian law, but only in my wife's name. Indonesian law makes it difficult for a mixed (Indonesian/non-Indonesian) couple to adopt so we went for that route. Also because the UK does not recognise Indonesian adoptions anyway so I will have to go through the UK adoption process whatever happens.
I have been working in management for aid organisations for the last 7 years and now work with Oxfam in Indonesia.
We are planning to move to the UK next year, but I do not have a job there yet.
What are my chances if I apply for settlement visas for them now? Or should I wait and see if I can get a job before I apply for the visas? Or does the Borders Agency give returning UK citizens the opportunity to bring family while they come home to look for work?
I can give my parents address as first place of abode...
Cheers,
