UK Spouse Visa and balancing with living abroad

Post by nom_brit » Wed Nov 24, 2021 8:39 pm

Hi there,

I'm considering a NHR in Portugal. The minimum requirement is to live in 183 days in Portugal. The remaining time I will do in the UK with an occasional holiday.

My wife is on leave to remain visa has a job in the UK. She has to make sure that she stays 183 days minimum in the UK to qualify indefinate leave to remain and then hopefully a British passport.

We will spending 95% of our time together. But I also would like to live half the year in Portugal and get a Portuguese residency in the long term. The long term plan is to do 50-50 split between the UK and Portugal. We both work in remote jobs, so we want to take advantage.

I want to state that it is only me that will be applying for NHR. There will only be a week apart where she is in the UK and I'm Portugal for us both to meet the minimal requirements of living in the countries.

Is this is a viable plan and would this affect my wife's renewal in the UK?

Would love to hear thoughts and if anyone else has similar situation
