National Insurance Number while waiting for EEA2 RC

Post by OmarA » Wed Jun 24, 2009 6:50 pm

Can my wife apply for a national inurance number while waiting for a residence card? She's been waiting for it since last year Sep-2008

She applied for RC under EEA2

i can tell you she can as i did my self as long as she has got her certificat of application with her.
when i got the COA i went to my local jobcentre plus and they gave me this number 0845 600 0643 and i book and appointment for an interview .
then i got letter confirming the booking with the date and the the location which is never your local jobcentre plus.
i took with my COA a proof of address ,she needs to get there early as the queues a long .the interview consists on questions like when did you come to the country? are you going to be self employed?who`s your husband ?dates of birth date of marrige...etc routine stuff really.
they photocopie all the documents certifu them to make sure nothing is doggy then they will tell you it would take up to 8 weeks to get the nuber them 6 more weeks to get the card,it took me 3 weeks for the first and 1 extra week for the later one.
make sure she takes as much ID as she can i wasn`t asked but i noticed some people were asked for lots of stuff.
good luck

Why has your wife been waiting for so long? It should be a MAXIUMUM of 6 months from when you apply.

You wife can work right now, and can definitely apply for a NI number if she needs it.

Well she spoke to them last week friday, they noted her info and told her that she will receive a letter with info how to apply for a NIN sometime this week.

@Directive, she's waiting for her RC since last year september, all the trying to get in touch with HomeOffice failed, they do not reply to any letter, phone call and my local mp didnt help much.

But since 3 days we have been in touch with NWCSU@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk, and they replied with:

Thank you for your email.
Your complaint has been passed to the relevant casework department for action. They will contact you directly.

Kind regards,

I would suggest you immediately contact your MP and also contact Solvit at http://ec.europa.eu/solvit/

We applied yesterday online with solvit, and they emailed me today asking for a copy of COA, so sent it to them and still waiting...

Will update you once I receive further info
