Can my 19 year old step son get ILR/Citizenship

Hi

I am born in the UK, my spouse has British Citizenship, as do two of her children.

They came to the UK with ILR, and later succesfully applied for citizenship.

My question is does her 19 year old son have any chance of getting ILR or citizenship on the grounds that his mother is a citizen.

He is visiting on a tourist visa from his homeland of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and has expressed an interest in getting citizenship.

He was born in London, but at that point his mother did not have ILR or citizenship - his father never has - I believe they must have had work permits.

My step son would not wish to seek asulym or renounce his current citizenship, but hopefuly have dual nationality.

Please advise.

Section 1(3) applications - children born in the United Kingdom to parents who are now settled in the United Kingdom

If the child's parents become settled in the United Kingdom or become British citizens, the child will have an entitlement to register as a British citizen. This registration would be under section 1(3) of the British Nationality Act 1981.

This would be your step son. He was born here. His mother is now settled in the UK (i.e. ILR and now citizenship). But I believe he must be under 18 (i.e. still be a child).

It may be possible to do a registration as an adult, but I am unsure.

How much of his life has he lived in the UK?

In any case an application will take a long time. Likely longer than the tourist visa will last.

I don't think he lived in the UK very long, certainly not until he was 10.

He's only ever been back on tourist visas.

Thanks for the feedback though, who would I ask if adults are eligible to apply to register?
