I have been looking at the accommodation posts and many have been helpful, but have not exactly answered my questions.
1) Between August 2006 and August 2008 I stayed at a very good friend's house (she owns it, it has two double bedrooms) - I would pay her £220 per month including all bills but it was not official - I would come in and out of the country and she was doing me a favour by allowing me to pay for only the months when I was there (I am a PhD student so would be out of the country doing research for some months). She is a great friend of mine. Since September 2008 I have lived in Uganda. Now I am planning to go back to U.K this month and have my fiancee (then on a spouse visa after we marry) to come over, hopefully by June 2010. My friend in U.K is delighted to have me come back and stay, and is also very happy for my husband to come and live there, until the time when we have more money for a one-bedroom flat on our own.
My income is through a scholarship - approx. £12600 per year (NET - I don't pay tax), and over the last two years I have managed to save £5300, and through my fiancee's small business here we hope to get another £1000 in savings by the end of next month. My scholarship is confirmed income until March 2011. I think this is enough for the visa (another question!) but as you can see, it's not enough for renting a flat on our own until my husband gets a job.
2) We have been living together in a little house in Uganda since October 2008. All receipts were in my name as I was paying, but I have got my landlord to write a letter saying my fiance was living with me. Is this enough to prove that we were living together as de facto man and wife in the same house during this period? There are no tenancy agreements here as everything is very informal.
