Bank Statements/Savings

Post by Peck » Tue Jul 13, 2010 1:22 pm

Hi everyone, just discovered this board and wanted to ask a question. It may have been covered in a similar way on another thread but I'd appreciate any help.

My girlfriend is Japanese who until recently live in Tokyo. We've been together for nearly 3 years (known each other for nearly 4) and she has been living here in Glasgow with me since last April on a Youth Mobility Visa. We are going to Japan to get married at the end of the month after which I'll return home to get back to work while she carries on with the visa process (after changin her name on a few things).

She has expressed concerns about my bank statements, in that until last month I have been working a 4 day week (for 18 months due to the recession) and 4 of my previous 6 months statements shows my account overdrawn for the most part. (an authorised averdraft it must be said) My out goings don't exceed my income and I've never claimed any benefits, but will they look less favourably on this application due to my statements being in minus figures? June and July's stements should she credit, but the first 4 wont be.

I have a second account that I transfer money to where all my direct debits are linked to (mortgage, council tax etc.) but I do not recieve statements from that one. Am I better off asking for staments to be produced for this account? (can I print them out from my online banking?) or will that not matter as I have a copy of the mortgage statement along with the council tax bill from the last 2 years (which her name is on) that show payments?

Sorry if I've went on a bit, I hope you can advise me. She's pretty stressed out about this. We had planned to get married next year but brought it forward at short notice so had not time really to get accounts topped up for the benefit of 6 months staments.

Thanks in advance everyone.

Greg.

Meant to say, though I have no savings (but a steady income) she has a 5 figure bank balance. So while she looks for a job I'm not supporting her.

Does this make a difference?

Greg.
