Unmarried partner Visa - Passport and Funds Questions

Post by sparkyzal » Thu Dec 02, 2010 8:53 pm

Hi all,

apologies if this has been asked before.

1) I am the sponsor of my unmarried partner. I am with her in Rio now but am going to London before her and she is applying from Argentina.

My question is: will she need a notarized copy of every page of my passport to submit with the application?
Obviously I cant give her the original as i am travelling with it.

2) She has a few thousand dollars saved, I am a home owner in London but have virtually no savings as I have been living in low income Brazil for a few years. I do however have a confirmed, 25 to 30 grand a year job offer as soon as i get back. My girlfriend also has been offered a job on arrival. Considering these offers (that will be explained and included in the application) and the fact that we will have almost no rent or mortgage costs in London, are we likely to satisfy the funds requirements for the Unmarried Partner Visa?

Many thanks for any help, Mark

Yes she will need certified(notarized) copy of every page of your passport to hand in with her application

2) She has a few thousand dollars saved, I am a home owner in London but have virtually no savings as I have been living in low income Brazil for a few years. Its all well having a job offer available on arrival, but that does not guarantee a visa as its only an "OFFER".

The ECO will base his decision on facts you present before him. He will make his decison on the basis that you partner need to meet all the criteria for a visa. He does not go on assumption of what might be available in respect of job, funds or accommodation.

The fact that you dont have any rent or mortgage to pay, does not mean that you wont have any other daily iving expenses to pay for.And all this is based on the assumption that you may have a job. What would happen if she applied and you didnt have a job? What are you going to do then?.

My advise is for you to come, get a job, save a few pounds together and then maybe apply 3- 4 months later. The chances of your partner gettting the visa is significantly higher as you will be now deemed to have enough to support maintain and accommodate her on arrival to UK
.

Many thanks for any help, Mark
