Want to return to UK -- many family connections, etc.

Post by brokentelephone » Tue Mar 27, 2012 10:00 pm

Hi,

I am currently looking into ways to move back to England.

I am a Canadian citizen and completed an LLB at the University of London, as well as a LPC (legal practice course) at the College of Law, and was supposed to begin work at a London law firm which would have sponsored me for a visa.

Unfortunately, the law firm couldn't retain me due to the recession, and I am left without any right of abode in London. I already stayed in the UK for 2 years on a post-study visa which recently expired.

My father has a British Passport. His father was born in 1889 in Russia and was naturalized in the UK in 1917 after having moved there in 1891. My father got a British passport 15 years ago -- unfortunately for me, after I was born.

My South African grandmother on my mothers side has an Irish passport which she applied for through her grandparent who must have been born in Ireland.

My sister is married to a British man, and recently had a baby in London who is obviously British.

Do any of these family connections help in obtaining a passport/visa? I am desperate to move back to London.

Thank you all in advance.

form what u wrote above I think it is so clear to me that

ur grandfather has British nationality and ur father too, so it it u can claim it too, as u were born and ur grandad was British national.

Unfortunately I don't think you meet the criteria for an ancestry visa as neither of your grandparents were born in the UK.

Have you looked at the possibility of whether you can obtain an Irish passport through your grandmother? That would entitle you to work in the UK.

I believe Irish passport has same stipulations as British (i.e., grandpartent must be born in UK).

Any benefit for me to talk to an immigration lawyer?
