Work Permit vs Residence Permit

I know this topic is irrelevent, but was trying to figure out the difference between WP and Residence Permit.

If there is any is there any special condition for a person having Residence Permit to apply for HSMP

Residence permit is next form of work permit. Whenever you apply for a work permit extension the new visa is called residence permit but it has same limitations like UK work permit.
Limitations like: No recourse to public funds, and change of work must be authorised.
