Not long - unless the Royal Mail lose the letter...

If your employer calls the Home Office (0300 123 4699) they can email the user id out, or the employer can email BusinessHelpdesk@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk

Hi,

I am kind of similar situation.

My employer wants to sponsor me but they don't have 'Sponsor License' yet.

As per the information they will be applying for the license very soon.

So my question is, 'How long will it take from applying for license to issue of COS'. I am running tight on time, as I have just al most 2 months in my current visa (PSW) to expire.

Please help. Thanks in advance.

@anurag

If your employer / sponsor fills the online application and sends the supporting documents right the first time, it would take between 2 to 4 weeks to attain the sponsorship. On the website, the time lines are much longer, but most of the cases are sorted within 4 weeks.

Once your sponsor attains the sponsorship, they have to raise a cos, since you are switching from PSW to Tier 2, they should be able to issue a unrestricted COS (provided they have the required numbers).

While they apply for the sponsorship, i think there is an option to specify the number of COS they need, so once they get the sponsorship, they should be able to assign it to you immediately.

Hi,
there is a situation with me. I have finished my degree and my visa going to finish on 6 sep 2014, and my employer had applied for tier 2 license on 19 july 2014. I am really desperate for license.
What do you think till what date it could be possible to get license???

4 to 8 weeks as stated in gou.uk website. If all the documents are sent correct the first time, it could be much shorter.

Thanks AJA.
It's been 1 week and didn't hear anything from home office.
Is there any possibility If I could apply without license and have a letter from employer that I am waiting for license.
please write me any other way please.

Hi,

My employer got the license in 4 days.

@eminem, When my employer was waiting to get the license, I got to know that 'An applicant can apply even without COS (explaining that your employer's license application is in process by a separate letter) and in that case UKBA will keep the application on hold until there is no decision on the employer's license application. Note: I just heard about this option so I would suggest you to double check with some appropriate person.

Good luck..

As long as you can prove your prospective employer has applied for the licence you can make an in time application for a visa.
If the employer does not get the licence then obviously you will be refused the visa.

This ability to apply in this manner will remain in place until online applications only method will block this route by asking for the COS.as part of the process.
