Extending Tier 5 Youth Mobility

Post by kross048 » Mon Nov 03, 2014 5:30 pm

Hi :D!

I am currently on the Tier 5 Youth Mobility scheme (expires October 2015) from Canada. I want to know if and how I can extend this? Is there a way I can get on another visa category without having to be sponsored by an employer to stay here? I run a business in the UK currently but will not meet the criteria for a Tier 1 (Entrepreneur) visa.

Help!

Thank you :)

This category doesn't permit an extension.

Agree it's possible to switch to a marriage visa. I was only answering your query about extending your current visa.

That is pretty impressive that you have set up a business, rarely have I seen YMS do that.
As for staying on - under Tier 5 no matter what you have to leave the UK to apply for leave to enter again.
If you intend to return under another route other than Sponsorship you are left with few choices.
Marriage - that is a bit extreme unless that is where your heading in any event.
Ancestry - did your Grand parents come from the UK, or another EEA state. Note some are easier to acquire EEA.status than others.

Oh there is good news and bad news for this!

I know some friends who set up a business on their Teir 5 visa while they were over here but unfortunately they couldn't extend it and they had to return back to aus. The tier 5 youth mobility visa is the hardest visa to extend, and unless you're dating someone from the UK, EU or with a better visa, its not looking good for you :(

The only thing you might want to look into is the fact that the visa laws for people from the commonwealth are probably going to be changing next year making it possible for us to come here without the same visa restrictions that exist right now. It probably won't come into effect until mid next year though so I hope your visa doesn't expire before then.

I am unaware of any relaxation of the visa rules that would apply to Commonwealth countries that would give access to work.
Can I ask where you got that information from?

In the light of no specified rules for EU unmarried partners the UK adopts its own rules with is 2 years provable cohabitation.
