Appendix FM 6 month rule - two jobs OK?

Post by morleyaxis » Mon Apr 27, 2015 12:22 pm

Hi just a quick question about the Appendix FM 6 month rule. It says that a person can meet the requirement if they work for the same employer over a continual 6 month period and keep above the £18,600 for each month (or if non-salaried their average over the 6 months exceeds the equivalent of £18,600 pa). My question is can one use this 6 month option if one has MORE THAN ONE JOB. The rules only mention the word "employer" and being with the "same employer". But what if the person is with the same two employers i.e. has two jobs over the same 6 month period. Is that OK to meet the 6 month route or would one need to calculate the income over 12 months. The rules do not appear to say anything, but obviously it would be easier to meet the £18,600 with two jobs than one.
Thanks if anyone has the answer.

I see that this question has been asked before...

Having been through various posts the conclusion I have gleaned is that it WOULD be possible to meet the Appendix FM financial requirement in Category A (6 months) if the sponsor was working two jobs, PROVIDING that the sponsor had been in each individual job for more than 6 months (and obviously the combination of income met the £18,600 requirement). Presumably this would also allow for one job being salaried and the other non-salaried?

I would be grateful if anyone can confirm or support this or otherwise share any doubts. Thank you.

Yes you can use 2 jobs and as you rightly stated you would have to be in each job for 6 months to use Cat A.
When you complete Appendix 2 re: your finances you could photocopy the pages to complete details for the 2nd job or add this information to the 'additional information' section.

Many thanks for your reply SoHopeful. It's good to get confirmation.

And do you also think its OK to combine salaried and non-salaried employment for category A? i.e. by adding the lowest monthly figure over the 6 months (for salaried) to the average monthly pay over the 6 months (for non-salaried) and multiplying by 12 to see if more than £18,600?

Thanks for your input.

With your above description, you can't apply with 3 payslips if you move job, you'll need payslips for the past 9 months, that is 9 past payslips+3 present payslips=12.
This means you can apply under cat B. With 12 payslips, you'll meet first condition.
Secondly, your present annual job must be equal or greater than 18600.
These 2 conditions must be met under cat B for the visa to be granted.
