You will however have to register your intention to marry with a Home Office designated Registry Office. The Registrar is then legally bound to notify the Home Office, who can then extend the notification period from 28 to 70 days in order to interview you both if they choose to do so, before the wedding can take place.
Not all couples are interviewed.

Hello noajthan,

I will check tomorrow with the register office. The thing is when I was checking online the documents that are needed for 2 people getting married in the UK, I could nowhere read if these requirements refer to 2 EEA nationals getting married to each rather than an EEA national getting married to a British national.

To me personally you have been very helpful. Talking about permanent residence, British citizenship and marriage. Thanks a lot for all your help.

Thanks

Hello Casa,

So based on what you are telling me and based on what I did read online, I understand that if I do the following I can get married?

1) Hold an EEA passport (both of us)
2) Proof of address
3) Be a resident for at least 7 days close to the register office
4) Apply to get married for at least 28 days before the marriage takes place

So really thats all? No witnesses required?

Thanks

You of course need to meet the other requirements of a marriage that even British citizens must meet as well.

4) Be prepared for the notification period to be extended to 70 days as you are foreign nationals.

secret.simon has provided the relevant links to ensure all standard requirements are met.

Be prepared for the notification period to be extended to 70 days as you are foreign nationals.
I thought the notice period is only normally extended for foreign nationals from outside the EEA (or of course if they suspect a sham marriage)?!

My error...you're absolutely right. Confirmed on the Gov.uk website.

Hi guys,

You were absolutely right.

I called the council yesterday and I was told that we can married (both EEA nationals). The only documents needed are EEA passports and proof of residence from both us. Additionally the good news is that we can married on a Saturday!! This is very convenient but a bit more expensive, £190. 28 days waiting period I was told.

Thanks guys
