Settlement - marriage question about health surcharge

Post by mrswow » Mon May 02, 2016 9:02 pm

Hi guys :)

I was just wondering, myself and my fiancée are about to apply for our marriage visa, we have had advice from an immigration advice service however there was one thing we were unsure of in the advice and that was the healthcare surcharge.

we understand this has to be paid beforehand but the advise given was

"the international health surcharge is not paid by fiancées it is paid once in the uk when making the extension application on form FLR(M)"

Does this mean we do not have to pay the surcharge at this moment and only have to pay it when we apply for FLR after marriage. It is confusing me somewhat because when applying online it says make sure you have an IHS number.

thank you for any advice :)

Correct. The NHS surcharge of £500 will be payable when your fiancée switches from to a FLR(M) visa after the wedding.

Make sure you are applying for the Fiance visa (expensive visa fee) and not the Marriage visitor visa (cheap visa fee)

Yes, that would be the correct one then. The other cheaper one does not allow switching within the UK and some people have made this error by applying for the wrong one, so was just double checking :D
