Will I get ILR after 2 and half yrs of stay in uk

Post by zoyasingh » Sat Jun 04, 2016 10:36 pm

Hello,
I am on spouse visa in the uk since April'15. Me and my two dependant children were granted visa in feb'15. We got visa till nov'17.
I am in confusion. Please help me..
I want to know that
1) when we apply again in Nov, will that be our application for ILR? If yes
2) how long after that we can apply for British citizenship?

Please reply as I really am in confusion.

Many thanks
Z.Singh

1) Since rules change in (from memory 2012) it now takes 5 years to earn ILR.

Next visa will be a further FLR (pun not intended).

2) Once someone has ILR, in general they have to be free of immigration time restrictions (that means having ILR) for 12 months before applying for the privilege of citizenship.

That is unless married to a British spouse (which I assume is your case). In that case there is no need to wait for the extra 12 months after getting ILR. Apply for citizenship as soon as all requirements have been met.

Not a pun, but most likely a tautology. Is there an emoji for splitting hairs?
