Help:Which SOC code applies for Digital Communications jobs?

Post by lifeontier2 » Tue Jul 26, 2016 12:19 pm

Hi all,

I am currently on a tier 2 general visa, and am looking to switch employers. I have two offers at the moment, one for the position of a Social Media Officer, and the other for a Digital Content Marketing Executive. I have chosen to go with the latter. Now, I am fully aware that Marketing Executive jobs are at NVQ level 4, but there is a huge difference between my job description for a Digital Content Marketing Exec and the level 4 position described by the UKBA, and it definitely isn't the right code for this job. But I'm not sure what else I can choose. I am thinking of applying for my tier 2 visa using one of the following SOC codes:

2137: Web design and development professionals (most relevant related job title- Multimedia Developer)
2473 Advertising accounts managers and creative directors (most relevant related job title- Campaign Manager or Creative Director)

I will soon be applying for my tier 2 visa for this position, but am I taking a risk and wasting my money by choosing the job which sounds like it's a low skilled job (but isn't?) Or will my application still be successful if I chose one of the above codes even though they don't similar to the advertised job title?

Looking forward to someone helping me solve my dilemma!

Thanks,

E

the soc codes are not for you to choose..
The employer chooses them as per the job description and are held accountable on audits to the companies by UKVI.

Thanks iworker, just to rephrase my question then, can my visa application be rejected if the company's choice of SOC code isn't considered the correct one by the UKVI?

Also, and more crucially, does the job title of the advertised position have to match the job titles in SOC codes list? Will Digital Content Marketing Exec only be considered for the code of a Marketing Exec role simply because the two words match? Or can that position qualify for a different SOC code like Campaign Manager, based on the job description?

Thanks very much,

E

If the UKVI is not satisfied with the allocated soc code, they will question the employer and possibly visit too.
the advert does not have to be exactly same as on the title on soc code list, however, the other detials in the advert should match to the duties of the allocated soc code from employer.

Hi iworker,

Thanks very much for making that clear, that's all I wanted to know.
