Permission to bring dependent child to UK

Post by David5516 » Fri Jan 06, 2017 4:49 pm

Hello, my fiancee has a child under 18 who lives with her. The father has lived in a third country for several years. She is solely responsible for her child. What type of permission will be required for her to be able to apply for her child to join her in the UK once we are married?
Does it have to specify the country the child will move to, or can it be a general permission to take him out of his home country? And is a letter from the father sufficient ?
Thank you.

HO/UKVI is quite strict about this and sole responsibility. Is the father named on the child's birth cert? How old is the child?

See link below. She needs documentary official evidence that she has sole responsibility.

A member of the forum in the same situation has had the child dependent visa refused 3 times due to the sole responsibility issue.

You will have to prove relationship (mother and child), mother's sole parental responsibility/sole custody as well as have other parent's permission.

Thanks for the advice. What if the father refuses to give permission? Is a court's permission acceptable ? Does the permission have to specify the country? And what kind of proof is required to confirm the mother is solely responsible?
Regards.

You have to justify and explain lack of permission, for example due to estrangement.
There is no standard template for a permission letter.

My family is from Philippines so I provided all sorts of Philippine-related documentation, (affidavits, official documentation, school, plus medical, local government documents etc). Court papers would help too.

This is the members/thread I referred to early. Suggest read the whole thread to see all the advice given, what he did and submitted and still got refused more than once. See also particularly the posts about the affidavit from the biological father.
