EC in old passport

Post by gps » Thu Feb 10, 2005 10:53 am

Hi All,

My wife's passport will expire on 06-Feb-06. She got her HSMP and EC some time back. We are still in India and going to UK in April-05, I want to renew her passport before leaving India otherwise she will get problem at the time of FLR. We can renew the passport in India easily if it is going to expire within one year.

But I have one confusion, When she will renew her passport she will get a new passport and her old passport. Her EC entry is in her old passport.

1) Will there be any problem at the port of entry ? They may say EC is in old passport so it is not valid ??

2) Will there be any problem at the time of FLR ?

Pl suggest what should we do in this situation.

gps.... you can easily get your new passport within UK from Indian consulate. It usualy happens when someone expired or lost his/her passport. As far as old passport is concerned, it is stappled with new one and endorsed with a stamp. So dont be confused with this situation. The old passport will remain attached with new one. There may be the difference of rates of new passports within your country and in some foriegn consulate, you can check it.

Although not necessarily applicable in this situation - transfering 'leave to remain' from an old ppt to a new one (in the UK) will cost £500 for premier service at PEO.
Where there is a will there is a way.

Subject to the EC being intact on the old passport this should not be be an issue at the POE i.e make sure the old passport if clipped in no way impacts on the integrity of the page with the British Visa. Naturally expect a closer scrutiny of both new and old passports to verify that the indentity of the holder is excactly the same.

Not if you submit both new and old passports - the caseworker will need to see your date of entry into the UK and confirmation of your entry status i.e. your EC in the old passport.

Get a new passport as planned - it will make life easier in the longer term. I have noticed that many consulates in London (e.g. French) are no longer accepting applications from people with a UK visa in their old passport. They want you to get such endorsed in your new passport 1st.

Have a safe trip
