CAS for TIER 2 dependent

Hello,
I have applied for TIER-2 dependent VISA as my husband serving as a Lecturer at a University in UK. Recently, I have got a PhD Studentship offer from a university in UK. As far I know that I can study in UK with my TIER-2 dependent VISA. Therefore, I have not applied for TIER-4 for study. However, I have applied for ATAS clearance certificate to start the course in the University. Do I also need to apply for CAS reference number?

Would you please let me know whether CAS is only needed for TIER-4 or every international student should have a CAS number to begin the course in University?

Will the University not allow me to study if I have not any CAS; despite having TIER-2 dependent VISA and ATAS clearance?

A CAS is required if you apply for a Tier 4 visa.

Thanks for your prompt reply. That means, I will not need CAS to start my PhD at UK. I can start it with TIER-2 dependent VISA? University will not ask it from me during enrollment?

You are free to study if you are a Tier 2 Dependent as page 12 of the PBS Dependent guidance states.

The whole thing is: I can start PhD with TIER-2 dependent VISA along with ATAS clearance only (as it is a research degree-according to point no. 48) no need for CAS. Isn't it?

Correct as you are not applying for a student visa or asking a university to sponsor you, which would require a CAS.

Thanks a lot for the clarification. You are right that I do not need permission from University for issuing VISA.
However, The University has provided me Full Scholarship. Will they not issue the scholarship without CAS despite having study permission?

Well, you mean TIER-4 VISA sponsored student only need CAS; issuing of University Scholarship is not anyhow related to CAS; dont' you?
