Tax Clearance Checks before applying ILR

Post by swiftsid » Mon Mar 19, 2018 9:50 pm

Hi everyone,

I will be soon applying for ILR (Tier 2G route) in May 2018, so wanted to do some pre checks on my Taxes in HMRC records.

What are the best ways to check that and possibly get something like a Tax Clearance statement ? by Calling/writing to HMRC?

Also, in my case, I have some recent additional Rental income coming into my account for past couple of months. So to get it included in this years (2017-2018) TAX calculations, Should I be informing HMRC regarding the same now and get my taxes sorted OR as the rule says by 5th Oct 2018.

While applying for ILR does HO do any kind of checks with HMRC for the current year as well ?

Any response/suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks in Advance.

Register at the following URL to view your tax and NI history online.

https://www.gov.uk/personal-tax-account

It is common belief that HO has direct access to HMRC records and they do cross check claims of income against HMRC data.

Thanks for your reply.

I am already registered at the link and have personal Tax account. Checked in there and can see no gaps, no tax related communications/demands out there for me. So shall I assume all well's in HMRC records for me.

How about my additional rental income. How do I declare that and do i need to Self Assessment ? which normally self-employed do. I am employed by a company and get P60 every year. Confused here. :?

My intention is to declare and pay tax on it and so all me records are clean.

Thanks
Sid

As long as the records match your payslips there is nothing to worry about.

As for your rental income, it is taxable and must be declared to HMRC. I believe you should do that via self-assessment before the yearly deadline. Admittedly, my knowledge in this area is fairly limited to I'll let others advise.
