Thank you all very much for your replies.

We didn't need to get a COA for a marriage in an anglican church, we needed to swear an affidavit with the diocesan registrar which cost about £75.
Then once he has processed this we will recieve a common licence to marry within about 2 - 3 weeks and this is valid for 3 months.
It seems the Church of England are slightly more efficient than certain other bodies that most of us have dealt with!
