Tier 2: supplementary, voluntary and secondary employment

Post by pratik176 » Wed Jul 04, 2018 4:17 pm

Hi All

I wanted to check if anyone has opted for Supplementary employment when one is on a Tier 2 General Visa

Supplementary employment
In addition to the job specified on the certificate of sponsorship (CoS), the applicant
can do extra work if it is:
• in either a job on the shortage occupation list or a job in the same profession
and at the same professional level as the work for which the CoS was assigned
• no more than 20 hours a week
• outside the working hours covered by the CoS
If they meet the above requirements the applicant does not need to inform the Home
Office before taking extra work.

It would be great if you help with tax implications, or how does taxation work? I presume one would have to hire an accountant if one is on PAYE via one's organisation?

Also, does opting for Supplementary work have any impact on decision from the UK home office for the ILR? since tax records are one of the most important factor which influences the decision for an ILR.

You can do it but not as self employed. You need to be on PAYE with your second 20hr per week employer.
since tax records are one of the most important factor which influences the decision for an ILR.
Not really for Tier 2. It was a big issue for Tier 1 General visas which is/was different rules to Tier 2 General.
