Gap in national insurance

Post by stalemate1123 » Sat Feb 02, 2019 2:37 pm

I came to the UK on a Tier 4 visa in 2010 and transferred to a Tier 2 visa in 2012. Received my ILR last year and I'm now preparing my documents for citizenship.

On my HMRC account, it shows all tax I have paid (last 05 years only) and NI payments for all years since I have been in the UK. My NI contributions are full for every year since 2012 but for the years 2010-11 and 2011-12 i.e. my student years, it shows a gap and gives me an option to pay £50 and £550 respectively as voluntary contribution.

Do I need to pay this before my citizenship application and does it form part of the checks they make?

No you don't have to pay. Yes HO checks it but it is not an Issue if there is a gap.
