Does Home Office accept Remain to leave in the expired foreign passport when applying for british citizenship?

Post by Blizanac » Wed Feb 20, 2019 7:44 pm

Hello

The advice you be much appreciated, I am deaf so need to double and triple check everything.

To my horror, I just discovered today after checking online that since my residence permit (indefinite leave to remain in the UK) vignette is in the old expired passport, apparently, in 2014 Home office issued the rule that vignette in the expired passport is not proof of the right to work. Before this came into the effect somewhen in 2014, I was working at the university between 2012 and 2015 I was not aware of the changes in the rules. However, I have a letter from the Home Office confirming that I am granted indefinitely leave to remain in the UK. And I am also EU citizen so I just hope not to have problems, but you are never too sure.

To complicate things, I spent all last year on cancer treatment and did not work since 2016. In the online application, one section asks for my employment status and details of the organisation. As far as I understand, I currently receive ESA so I cannot give them the information about my employment. They also ask for the tax code. I presume my current tax code by HM Revenue and Customs that my jobcentre advisor can give me would suffice?

I was told by the local CAB to include a cover letter as a part of my application.

Many thanks in advance

Regards

You can apply with what you have as ILR.
Char (CR001 not Casa)

sorry to bother you again...

I am still confused about the online application section's about employment. That section asks for my employment status and details of the organisation. As far as I understand, I currently receive ESA so I cannot give them the information about my employment. They also ask for the tax code. I presume my current tax code by HM Revenue and Customs that my jobcentre advisor can give me would suffice? I was told by the local CAB to include a cover letter as a part of my application.

Cheers!

Your current status is unemployed. Provide any previous employments you had (up to 10 years).
Your tax code is not required (not relevant) - it is the employers tax reference - as you are unemployed you don't have an employers tax reference, therefore state not applicable. If you wish you can explain in a separate note, but not strictly necessary - eployment is not a pre-requisite for AN.
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.
Please do not send me private messages asking for advice.

having a permanent residence card before applying for citizenship

Hello

I am somehow reluctant to finish my online application right now as I read one of the requirements at the end of it. It says:

You must include your:
• passport or EEA national identity card
• UK permanent residence card
• evidence of freedom from immigration time restrictions

You must have a permanent residence card before you can apply for citizenship Apply for a permanent residence card.

Well, I obtained RLI before my country (Croatia) become EU member. I only have vignette stating residence permit. I have no card.

Do I need to get one before applying?

cheers

Your ilr is the evidence of free from immigration control!
